I knew the day would come, but to be honest I wasn't sure when and it was totally unexpected!


Today, Monsta X had their first music show win. No one cares about this whole post, but I'll explain 😉. In the KPOP/idol industry when a group or artist come out with a new song (has a comeback) they'll promote and perform their title track (single) on different music show programs throughout the week (different channels/networks). These promotions go on for about a month, give or take. They compete against other artists who have had a comeback around the same time. The criteria for a win includes number of digital streams, physical sales, m/v views, pre and post show voting, among others. Different music shows have different percentages for each criteria.

Monsta X debuted in May of 2015, and have had THREE COMEBACKS A YEAR, YES THREE. THREE ALBUMS A YEAR. And for each comeback promotion they had not yet gotten a music show win. They've been invited to the some of biggest award shows in Asia since their debut and had a succesful, sold out, world tour earlier this year. Nonetheless, a music show win in the industry is a marker of a succesful idol. The members claimed that a win wasn't something that they worried about, but of course it was something they yearned for. Each comeback we voted and worked hard, but for whatever reason it just wasn't happening.

In March, their title track "Beautiful" placed third
In June, their second title track of the year "Shine Forever" placed second
And now in November, their (hopefully) final title track of the year, "DRAMARAMA" has placed first!
